It's a very interesting article, one that taught me a lot, but I really can't see a fairly visible minority of about 1/6 of France's population actually rebelling.

Civil disorder, sure, but I strongly doubt there will be a change of government, or much but some demonstrations.

Overall, this whole thing puts me, as a socialist, in a rather uncomfortable position. I'm of course against Le Pen, and forcing people to stop wearing hijabs is simply sadism, but at the same time, I'm against religion in general as a cause of a great deal of completely unavoidable hate and repression, and Islam is a poster child for repressive religions.

The truly great thing about France is that it is an truly secular society. Christians are also banned from displays of their religion in schools, for example.

It would be a disaster for the world if this security democracy fell.
