It's funny, but I lived in New York City for thirty years and never one time went to the Apollo!
Of course I knew about it, and I had a lot of respect for it, but at the time (and now for that matter) I was seeing a lot of avant garde music, a lot of rock music, a lot of electronic music (which unfortunately took over the world).
I would have gone on half an excuse, but it didn't happen, ah well. I saw many thousands of music shows, including some world class, unrepeatable shows (the Butthole Surfers at the World stands out for the best combination of musical value and underground wildness).
