It's my theory that the writer has never actually met any intelligent people at all.

I've worked with a few of the greats in the field of programming, though I certainly am not in that category. I've met a lot of other brilliant people in other fields, from music to finance to the sciences.

In fact, intelligent people overthink things because this is a classic error intelligent people make.

Pretty well all of these brilliant people good small talk because they were civilized human beings and not the antisocial assholes you seem to venerate.

Decent human beings understand that "small talk" - even your word for it indicates your contempt! - is one of the social lubricants that makes life better.

Your article should really be called, "I venerate sociopaths because I don't know how decent humans behave.
