It’s not intrinsically slow — it’s slow because behind the scenes you’re running a native app.

There’s absolutely no reason that future versions of Electron couldn’t compile or even just-in-time compile to native code using Web Assembly — I expect that to be demonstrated within a year or two, and be ubiquitous in a couple of years after that, assuming the Collapse doesn’t come first of course.
