I've been an SF fan since the 60s, and I completely agree.

I'm re-reading some of my SF magazines from the 70s, and you see science writers predicting we'd have "almost free" energy in the 1980s and be zipping around the asteroid belt.

Even at the time we should have been concentrating on saving our ecosystem. Now it's an emergency!
