I’ve lived in five countries (“lived” meaning “over a year”).
I spent thirty years in New York City and if I suppose if I’m anything, I’m a New Yorker, but I still felt like a foreigner there — which was never an issue. Many New Yorkers are permanent foreigners too.
To be honest, I love it. I love being in places where I don’t speak the language and seeing customs different from my own.
The one thing I miss from New York is the huge community I had there. It’s much harder to find as an older male in a smaller town.
