Joe DiMaggio was very serious about his golf. Once he was in a tournament, he knocked a ball into the rough, and while he was addressing the ball, he accidentally tapped it without anyone else noticing.

He stepped out of the rough, told the scorekeepers that he'd tapped the ball, and continued. Later he lost the match by one stroke.

This, among many other examples of fair play, is why Simon and Garfunkle sang, "Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?"
