Kant's Categorical Imperative is the basis of all rational morality. And you are simply following it, more or less to the letter. (So do we, though I am resolved to being more careful about palm oil again. I weaned myself off it about fifteen years ago and dropped all these products that used it, but I'll bet a bunch of new ones have slimed into my grocery cart.)
If even 10% of the world behaved like you, there would be major changes. If 90% were cooperative and willing to give things up for the great good, like you, then we could fix all the problems that face us.
You set an example. You have to try.
And in my case, at least I feel I can look at children without feeling overwhelming guilt for the awful things they will see.
