Makes zero sense.

It makes Trump look weak and Biden strong.

It prevents Trump from having rallies - his favorite thing in the world, and his best tool for rallying his supporters.

Even for Trump supporters, the cognitive dissonance of having Trump mock Biden for wearing a mask and then not two days later be rushed to the hospital while Biden is fine must be hard to deal with.

There's no legal basis for Pence pardoning Trump for crimes he hasn't even been formally accused of yet. Pardons require a conviction!

Yes, Ford did something this for Nixon, but it was never tested in court, and nothing in the Constitution indicates this is possible.

And finally, Trump has a mountain of state charges against him - charges that Pence has no power over. New York State alone could put him in jail for decades, the moment he steps out of office.
