I remember in the 1970s, we were saying just what you said about space travel, colonizing the planets, flying cars, fusion power, the conquest of death, and yes, mind-brain interfaces - they were just 10 or 20 years away.

Biofeedback machines, the analog versions of BCIs, were already commercially available.

Fifty years later, none of these things have come to pass. Some of them will in the future, some might never appear, but the timeframes were wildly off.
