No, it wasn't just "bringing the kids into the cockpit".

It was allowing a kid to fly the plane, not explaining to anyone else what was going on, not looking at the instruments during this time, and finally when the emergency was revealed by the child, the only person looking at the instruments!, making a series of flying mistakes and bad judgements that killed 75 people.

it's inexcusable.
