Oh, the rest of the article is also very light, but I’m dealing with this specific claim, that experts speak without using “words of doubt”.

And that isn’t true. I’m a minor expert in a couple of things, I’ve met several world class experts, and when they are talking about their field of expertise, they use “words of doubt” constantly, because the real world is complex and complicated and there are a large number of special cases that the experts know but don’t want to go into because they aren’t relevant to the moment.

I’m strongly against the idea that experts speak without doubt. This leads people to believe bullshit artists who just make shit up, and ignore people who actually know what they’re doing.

Take a look at the world today! What individual exemplifies never using “words of doubt” while claiming to be an expert in everything? Why, it’s the execrable Donald Trump!

If the average person learned to be skeptical of those who expressed no doubt, we’d all be better off.
