Optimists are nearly always bad people, and that was true even before the pandemic.

What optimism really means is "Fuck you, Jack, I'm alright". It means ignoring the plight of others because you personally are fine.

Things aren't that much better here in the Netherlands, and also, vaccination here is extremely slow - about one-twentieth the rate per capita in the US (so one four hundredth the number of total vaccinations).

I stay inside for the most part, though I do go on bike rides and occasionally get some food - which I buy masked, and I eat outdoors. But I haven't been in a supermarket for a year.
