Perhaps you should look at the actual numbers.

Venice is 1 meter above sea level and humans have spent billions just to keep it alive.

I live in a country that is mostly a little below sea level, and we make do, though we spent billions to keep it going.

Our Delta Works, one of the very best systems in the world, are good for 50 centimeters of water level rise, and there is no technology that will deal with even 2 meters of water rise.

But we're talking 50 meters of sea level rise when Antarctica melts. Fifty meters.

And we're also talking about heat waves in the tropics that will literally kill all human beings who do not have advanced air conditioning.
