Poppycock.

Every year humans consume more of almost every resource, and produce more waste. Both the consumption and the waste increase per capita increase geometrically and the population is also increasing geometrically.

And this has been true for the last 250 years.

Without a completely unprecedented effort where all humans decided to cut down on their consumption for the benefit of future generations, this will never change.

Pollyannaish arguments like “History is replete with examples of us humans getting out of tight spots” aren’t any argument at all.

I had a friend who used to say much the same thing when we chided him for drinking Coke and smoking cigarettes when he had diabetes, “I’ve made it until now, right?” And indeed, he did survive five heart attacks — not, however, the sixth. RIP Doug.
