Putting mines in Managua Harbor, which would have been a war crime even if the US were at war with Nicaragua, which it wasn’t, was the one that particularly enraged me at the time, but you can’t underestimate how terrible Iran-Contra was, or the Savings and Loan scandal, and of course the slashing of taxes on the rich resulted in the collapsing bridges, tunnels, water and electrical systems that the US “enjoys” today, as well as the choking deficit.

I strongly, strongly recommend the TV show The Americans if you are at all interested in the late cold war. I think it’s one of the greatest TV shows ever.
