Reading the original article says basically this - "It's not worth having a discussion with a screaming lunatic who isn't ever going to listen to a word you say anyway."

Such has been all of our experience having discussions with conservatives.

My erstwhile friends claimed increasingly crazy things without the slightest proof - that the Sandy Hook shooting was a complete hoax and none of these people existed; that Obama was a Muslim from Kenya; that his wife was a transsexual man; that COVID is the flu and that vaccinations are actively harmful; that it isn't tobacco that causes lung cancer, but the filters.

And the worst was that they wouldn't even treat me with respect. When I mentioned that a friend of mine on Facebook was friends with a family who lost kids at Sandy Hook, she went ballistic and accused me in the most foul terms of being a liar.

I became aware of the Gish Gallop - where people emit a huge cloud of false bullshit, and if you bother to take the time to start to refute it, they just make more bullshit claims without listening to your rebuttals.

Why should we talk with people like that? What is served listening to screaming lunatics who have renounced the use of reason, who will never engage any facts or arguments, and who vacillate between smug self-satisfaction, mockery and rage?
