Really sorry this happened to you. Particularly sorry about your daughter, it seems so unfair.

Unfortunately, the ACA, while significantly better than what was there before, didn’t really fix the issue at all. Americans still pay more for medical care than any other country, and still get some of the worst results.

The issue was unfortunately that Obama cut a deal with the insurance and pharmaceutical industries before anyone else, guaranteeing that nothing significant would change for them. Which meant that in fact, nothing significant would change at all.

Don’t get me wrong — I am well aware that even the ACA, limp and limited though it is, is better than what was there, and would never have happened under a Republican administration. Even a Band-Aid is better than nothing, but a Band-Aid on a sucking chest wound only delays the inevitable.

But the way I see it, America had this one chance to get actual healthcare like the rest of the developed world has — and blew it because of a misplaced faith in “free markets” and “capitalism” as the ultimate source of truth.

And it is my fear that there will never be another chance.

Again, sorry this happened to you.
