And, like the endless new flus that periodically slap us around, COVID-19 is a direct consequence of human's long, filthy love affair with meat.

It's my belief that some sort of Gaian religion which assigns value to the natural world - as opposed to, say, Christianity, which considers the natural world actively bad and a thing to be eventually disposed of! - is the only hope for not destroying the planet.

But I strongly suspect that won't happen. However, after we've slaughtered most of ourselves and most of the Biosphere, I feel such a religion will spring up naturally, if only to teach "Never again" to the few blighted survivors of our pathological greed and indifference.
