Sorry to hear this, Mitch.
You're in a bad position through no fault of your own. There is so much doom in the air that many people have burned out on it, and certainly don't want to spend the recreational reading time reading about it.
And for the not-inconsiderable number of people who do want to read about it, there is going to be an increasing preference for the more extreme writers. Umair, for example, is very smart, and his conclusions are generally good, but he is wretchedly bad at fact checking, and to compound the issue, never seems to read his comments or issue corrections. This is how he can emit an article a day and rake in the big bucks, by writing sophisticated streams of consciousness which have some association with the truth and never going back to them.
I have seen many waves of writers being fairly compensated for their work on the Internet, and each time the organizations in question ended up backpedaling. It is my sad belief that except for a few dozen extremely popular writers, the large number of people willing to write for free have robbed expository writing of most of its financial value. Moving to Substack is the logical next step; indeed, though I am not really aware of the details, it feels a little late to me for that gold rush, but there is certainly still some value to get out of it.
Best luck with your work!
