Strongly, strongly disagree.

Airplanes and rockets already exist, for one thing. But it's the magnitudes that make it practically impossible.

The tallest structure on Earth today is significantly shorter than 1km tall. A space elevator would be

well over 35,000 times as tall. The largest structure we have build in space is just over 100 meters in length - this would be 350,000 times as long.

Despite what you say, the construction in space cannot be powered from the Earth until the space elevator is almost finished and the connection is made.

It requires the construction of literally millions of kilometers of carbon nanotubes, a substance which so far has only been made in laboratories in small quantities.

I could go on and on.

A space elevator would be at least a century away, except by then we'll have destroyed our ecosystem.
