Total tax revenue for the US is about $4.7 trillion. About $4 trillion is federal taxes.

The official defense budget is $725 billion. Costs in other areas of the budget that are still "for war" bring that above $1 trillion. Costs for previous wars bring that above $1.5 trillion. That's about a third of the total taxes collected, or about 40% of the Federal tax budget.

$1.5 fucking trillion dollars a year is a ridiculous, obscene, filthy amount for a country to spend on warfare, particularly during peacetime, particularly when the same military has lost every war it started. The facts are bad enough, so let's stick to them.
