Such irk! It could be viewed as a compliment. Likely the person who said that would claim it was.
But it's in fact annoying. It doesn't help anything. It's arrogant, but I can't quite articulate why. Oh, because it's just like, "You can do better".
Don't get me wrong - even unsolicited advice can be great if it's operative or revelatory. Someone listened to my band's album and then said, "Did you know all of the songs you wrote are in raga form?"
I didn't say anything for a bit, and he thought I was offended, but no, I was just thinking. I thanked him profusely. I can't believe it took someone else to show me that. It wasn't even insulting - the guy likes ragas, so do I - but it would have been good even as an insult because it was such an eye-opener. And had I known, I'd have changed it up!
But "think bigger" is so friggen generic and then this joker will claim partial responsibility for any success you have, or blame you for not listening to him if you fail.
