Sure they are: enterprise: a project or undertaking, especially a bold or complex one.

What you mean is that they shouldn’t be commercial enterprises because it means sacrificing true information for messages that sell — and there you are completely right.

It’s a terrible, terrible problem because it leaves us with no way to get the to actual truth.

Worse, from a pure economic viewpoint, there is no problem here at all — just businesses modernizing in order to maximize their revenue. And capitalism is the one driving the bus these days, so if solving a problem doesn’t make someone oodles of cash, it is never going to get fixed.

There are quite a few problems with this same unfortunate feature today, problems with unpleasant names like “climate change”, “Donald Trump” and “income inequality” and the common driving feature of all of them is industrial capitalism — a system where the lion’s share of the profits and the power go to the 0.1% but the losses are socialized over all society.

Until we fix the root cause, these problems will continue to grow — and the results will be devastating for the entire human race.
