I still think The Minnesotan should cultivate a sense of humor. I've had a couple of moments like this with Black friends, and it always ended up with laughter when we realized the issue.

But you see, I don't see it as at all unreasonable for people of color in America to be deeply suspicious that even "nice" white people have veiled racism toward them, because it's absolutely true a large amount of the time, so I would never in a million years feel awkward or offended if someone suggested I was in this category.
