The funny part is this - I remember when this happened, we tried both and they were almost identical.

In blind tests, my friends and I were able to detect the new Coke - but only a little bit better than chance.

So near as I can tell, all of this hullaballoo is self-hypnosis.

The other interesting thing is that the difference between Coke with cane sugar and Coke with corn syrup is just massive. I don't even like soda - I'm fairly sure I have had none in 2020 - and yet given a choice I'd take the cane sugar every time, because the flavor difference is so great.

Overall, no one should be drinking any of these sodas, because they are deadly in the long term. The only friend of mine who actively likes sodas is a couple of years younger than me and looks twenty years older.

Liquid sugar is a seriously dangerous drug. It's bad enough for cane sugar, and corn syrup is far worse as it's a monosaccharide ("single sugar"), which means it enters your bloodstream much faster than cane sugar aka sucrose, which is a disaccharide ("two sugars") and needs to be broken down.

Thanks for a great article!
