The history of America is a series of horrors that have mostly been swept under the rug.

As I keep mentioning, I moved to the Netherlands almost five years ago now.

I have a lot of complaints, but it's a different world.

This year the country has really met its history of slavery dead-on. The Rijksmuseum, the largest museum in the country, has a huge retrospective on slavery right now, and one that supposedly does not soft-pedal the facts. The mayor of Amsterdam just issued a heartfelt apology for this city's role in the slave trade.

Interestingly last year, Netflix released a Dutch-language series called Ares. We were watching it for our Dutch, thinking it was the standard supernatural fare, and in many senses it was, but... well, no spoilers in case you see it, but it's relevant.

Thanks again as usual!
