The NEJM study talks about 1497 fully vaccinated healthcare workers where 39 of them got COVID-19 anyway and 19% of them - that is, seven people - got long COVID.

7 people out of 1497 is about 0.5%

I agree that the original Medium article's wording is quite ambiguous, and both readings are possible.
