Then you grew up in a state of delusion.

Do you have any idea how much energy it takes to get 1kg of mass into orbit? Better technology can’t change that.

Do I hear “space elevator”? Sorry, that’s also delusion. Humans have yet to build any structure that is as tall as 1km — a space elevator would be over 40,000km high.

And what “money” is at stake? Do you really think it will be economic to mine the asteroids and bring back raw materials? Not for a century or more — conceivably never.

It’s both funny and sad that you’ve expected something completely implausible to happen for half a century, it’s never come true, it is no closer than it was fifty years ago, and yet at no time have you ever stopped to think, “Perhaps I’m wrong.”
