This is a great article, and I feel I might be diverting from your main point, but I used to have this too, and I have two interesting takeaways.
The first is that I gradually got over it over decades— for some reason, I just produce a lot less earwax. It might happen to you.
The second is that I found soaking my ears in hydrogen peroxide diluted with distilled water to work extremely well. It was recommended by a good doctor I had — it has a double effect, as the H2O2 breaks down earwax and helps kill any infections.
How much to dilute depends on how strong the peroxide is and how sensitive your ears are. Trial and error was what I used — I was getting fairly weak peroxide so I mixed 2 parts of that to one of water. Just make sure to keep everything you use to fiddle with your ears really sterile.
This kept me away from the doctor for my ears for years. But remember, infections in your head are very dangerous, so if it gets out of control, you need to hit a hospital. If you are broke, use a fake name…
