This is a horrifying idea conceptually, and of course, scientifically inaccurate - while space itself is expanding, its contents are not, our Earth and solar system remain the same size.

Unbounded growth is impossible on a finite planet. The idea that there is some unstoppable innate imperative to exponential growth would simply mean that will trash our ecosystem and our civilization rather than cut down our obsessive consumption.
