This movie was one of the most stupid movies I have ever seen, and that detail was particularly stupid.

In order to get a time dilation factor of over 60,000 as in the movie, the gravitational force on the surface of the planet would be hundreds of thousands of times stronger than Earth.

Remembering the stupidity of that movie hurts my brain. All the characters were so inept and poor at decision making. The science was so terrible. The ending was even worse - why would you build a space habitat 1.5 billion kilometers from Earth, in a place where solar power is basically non-existent, when you could build the same habitat orbiting Earth for 0.000001% of the money?
