Two articles in a row from you on my feed, it's a good day!

Having lived in three countries in the last ten years, I felt that American kids were strung out and miserable, but Dutch and French kids seem to be much I like I remember kids from when I was one.

Dutch parents are warm toward their children, but also matter-of-fact. They let them take minor risks, and don't protect them from the consequences. When they fall over, they pick 'em up, dust 'em off, give 'em a hug, and then send them back into the fray.

I'm getting the same impression of the French, except I saw a French father yesterday screaming at his kid for basically nothing - everyone was looking at him and frowning, though, it was obvious not normal. She was considerably darker-skinned than he was...
