Until I travelled in Eastern Europe, I had no idea that many, many rational people there, even centrists, look back at the Communist days fondly.

Your average Russian or Bulgarian is not doing well at all. Your realistic Eastern European will say, "Yes, the USSR was crumbling and fell apart, but we had jobs, we had health care, we had a place to live, we got nice holidays once a year."
