Very good for you, raising those kids, but that's not any sort of logical argument, is it?
"Lighten up a bit" - that's not a refutation of a scientific fact.
We are literally facing the devastation of our ecosystem and climate, and the cause of it, obsessive consumption, continues to increase exponentially.
And I might add that we didn't actually fix the nuclear threat - there are still enough atom bombs to scour the planet. We simply forgot about it!
Your form of argument is so common I have a name for it - "the Doug". Doug was a musician I knew who had diabetes but smoked cigarettes and drank Coke. He would say, "People have been predicting I would die for decades, but I'm still here."
He did survive the first five heart attacks. Not the sixth, though. RIP Doug.
When people keep telling you that you are killing yourself with your life choices, "Everyone says that but I'm not dead yet" is a bad bad bad bad bad argument.
