We had a plan.

In 2016, we decided it was time. We got our shit together and left for Europe (hello from Amsterdam!)

This was by far the most expensive thing I ever did. Five years later I don't regret it, even though last year was the first year here I made more than I spent (mainly because I was earning little or nothing).

I had a big advantage - a UK passport - and that advantage was going away, so I simply had to seize the opportunity. (My wife, an American, had always wanted to leave right from the start.)
