We should start PAA - "phone addicts anonymous".
I was an early cell phone adopter. I experienced that phantom vibration effect too.
While I didn't throw my cell phone away, I took that as a warning sign. I don't even know where my phone is right now, in fact!
And you know, after a very short time, I didn't miss it at all. I still have the computer, on which I am typing! But my interaction is very different here. I frequently spend hours on a single focused task.
To be honest, I never had the same phone addiction as many people I know, because I touch type very fast and I could never ever get even a quarter of this rate on a phone. So there was always frustration there.
