The unfortunate issue is that we are only really being told one lie, but it’s one, great, big, whopping lie, and that’s that industrial civilization can continue to grow exponentially, consume more resources every year, and dump more waste in every part of the globe, and there will never be consequences and we’ll never have to clean it up.

I think a lot of people instinctively realize that the lives we are all leading are pathologically unsustainable in the long run, but rather than confront this brutal, inconceivable fact, they take refuge in bright, simple fairy stories like religion or one of the many conspiracy theories that this article mentions.
