Genocide of its native peoples, slavery, endless warfare and the systematic looting of its economy over generations by a tiny number of extremely rich people?

I'm a Briton who spent thirty years in that benighted hellhole and I can tell you that it's really worse than it seems, overall. :-D

Actually, New York City where I lived was fantastic if ugly and somewhat wearing, and I still love it, though I will likely never see it again. But if they could just split the five boroughs off from Long Island, tow it across the Atlantic, and leave it somewhere off the coast of Portugal, everyone would be happier in the long run.
