Why should I be “friends” with someone who gets great joy about the destruction of our ecosystem? Who considers children separated from parents who never committed any crime a good thing? Who cannot separate lies from truth?

The last time I unfriended someone on Facebook was quite typical. She claimed that the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax. I asked her for sources, she said, “Do your research”. I pointed out that one of my long-time friends was friends with one of the families and she called me a liar and a bunch of other names, and ended up with “Do your research.”

Tell me — why should I be friends with such hateful people? Why should I not insulate myself from hateful, destructive, delusional people? And what sort of “friendship” would it be with a person who has complete disdain for everything I hold dear?
