Why should the rest of us suffer because some developers are undisciplined?

Working from home doesn't just save a lot of time, it saves a lot of waste. There's the energy cost of going back and forth, but also the cost of supporting two separate buildings, one to work in, one to live in.

And why can't you discuss the same ideas over Zoom as you do in the office? In my lengthy experience, most of the chat in the office is time-wasting and distracting. When I worked at Google, people endlessly had long conversations just a few feet from my head. I ended up working from home before and after work, and coming in late and leaving early, and I got dinged for this every time.
