Yeah, what was with that anyway? That’s a lot of what I remember from the movie, DiCaprio’s limp character. He’s a fine actor; I blame the director.

But what I came here to say is that that movie is also influenced by the book Low Life by Luc Sante, or so I saw in an interview at the time.

And, unlike the original Gangs of New York book, which is rather a hard read for contemporary audiences (in other words, I personally could not finish it, heh), Low Life is a real page-turner. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the history of criminality in New York City!
