You did not prove this statement at all, and it is wrong.

In my long experience, most of the people who have suffered the greatest have been almost entirely diminished by that suffering. The number of artists and musicians whose work has been devastated by suffering is uncountable. Meeting your idols who have become embittered by decades of pain is a distressing experience that has happened more than once to me.

People whose lives are mostly suffering are a lot less likely to believe that life is meaningful, are a lot less likely to hope. It is not suffering that teaches us hope, it is seeing the possibility that suffering can end that teaches us hope.

I used to follow you. Then your religion started to creep into your column, and it moved from science to fantasy. I unfollowed you.

Medium showed me this one, and I thought I'd check it out for old times' sake but no, this column is literally church doctrine rehashed.
