You fail to understand the point of higher education.

Universities were never supposed to be vocational schools. In the rest of the world, they still aren’t. They are supposed to teach you how to learn, how to question, how to gather data, how to make rational decisions — how to be better citizens.

In Europe, people go to school and study things that truly interest them. A small fraction of them excel at these studies and continue. The rest enter the work world as better citizens.

Americans have this visceral hatred of higher education. “You studied philosophy, now you’ll die in the street! Hahahahah!”

And now you’re seeing the results of a population that does not value education and science.
