You wrote that whole long comment, which really has nothing to do with the article you're commenting on to the slightest degree, and particularly, does not address the main question at all.

No one denies that things are better for us now, today.

You admit that we're devastating our ecosystem through excessive consumption and excessive waste, and yet you believe the only way to continue is with "progress", which means more consumption and more waste.

Now, don't get me wrong. If we are not to collapse, we will desperately need technological advances. Specifically, I point to fusion power, which is the only way to prevent complete catastrophe.

But we have to get over progress for progress' sakes, and focus on reducing consumption, reducing waste, and particularly, reducing greenhouse gas outputs.

This going to require everyone's standard of living to fall quite a bit.
